The purpose of this guide is to provide support and guidance to instructors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) who are teaching online and hybrid courses during the fall semester. The guide covers topics that are important for instructors who are new to these modalities as well as those with more experience. It includes definitions, links to important resources, and details on instructional strategies that can assist you in delivering a successful online or hybrid course.
Guiding Principles for the Semester
Chancellor Plowman and Provost Zomchick have set out three guiding principles for the upcoming fall semester:
Be compassionate. Be creative. Be flexible.
Nobody expects you to be perfect at online and hybrid teaching, but your continued care and compassion for our students remains critically important as does your ongoing flexibility. Please continue to help your students understand that we care about them and that we are here for them. This is Tennessee. We are all members of the Volunteer community and we will get through this together.
