What’s the Cost of Earning Your Degree Online?

Pursuing an online degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is more affordable than you might think. A major reason is the financial support available to Vols Online students. Here’s what you need to know before you apply. 

You’re Eligible for the Same Aid as On-Campus Students 

Vols Online students have access to the same financial aid as their on-campus counterparts. This includes federal aid, state funding, university scholarships, and student loans. In addition, a Payment Plan is available, providing more time and flexibility to manage and pay the balance for each semester. 

Start with FAFSA 

The foundation of any financial aid journey is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). When filling it out, be sure to include UT’s school code: 003530. Once submitted, you’ll receive a Student Aid Report that outlines your federal aid eligibility. The same application also determines eligibility for state-level funding, such as: 

• Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TSAA)  

• Tennessee HOPE Scholarship 

*Federal student loans are entirely optional. You are never required to take out the loans offered as part of your financial aid package. 

Grants and Scholarships Are Within Reach 

Undergraduate students may qualify for need-based grants such as the Pell Grant, which doesn’t require repayment. UT also offers:

• Merit-based scholarships  

• Departmental scholarships through individual colleges 

• Scholarships specifically for students with disabilities 

• Opportunities through private foundations and organizations 

 Once admitted, students can search for additional awards through UT’s dedicated scholarship portal. 

Avoiding On-Campus Costs 

One major benefit of online learning is avoiding on-campus expenses. Vols Online students save on:
