The Elementary Education Graduate Certificate can be tailored to serve a variety of career goals. For K-12 teachers licensed in areas other than elementary education, this graduate certificate can be used towards earning an additional endorsement in Elementary Education. For teachers licensed in Elementary Education at the undergraduate level, non-licensed professionals who work in informal education settings, and others who engage in elementary education instructional opportunities, this graduate certificate provides advanced coursework specifically designed to enhance capacities for designing equity-focused elementary instruction.
In addition to one elective course, the Graduate Certificate in Elementary Education requires the completion of the following courses:
REED 530: Teaching Reading in the Elementary School
Trends in methods, materials, basic approaches, skill development and assessment procedures for teaching reading at elementary school level.
MEDU 530: Teaching Mathematics in the Elementary School
Teaching mathematics to diverse learners at the elementary level. Investigating mathematics subject matter, how children learn mathematics, and instructional strategies to enhance that learning.
SSCE 521: Teaching Social Studies in Elementary & Middle Schools
Planning and techniques. Trends in curriculum, development of concepts and generalizations, integration of social sciences.
SCED 531: Teaching Science in the Elementary School
Recent trends in methods, materials and content in teaching science to elementary students.
