The Secondary Mathematics Education graduate certificate can be tailored to serve a variety of education career goals. For K-12 teachers licensed in areas other than secondary mathematics education, this graduate certificate can be used towards earning an additional endorsement in Secondary Mathematics Education. For K-12 teachers licensed in secondary mathematics education at the undergraduate level, non-licensed professionals who work in informal education settings, and others who engage in high school math education instructional opportunities, this graduate certificate provides advanced coursework specifically designed to enhance capacities for designing equity-focused secondary mathematics instruction. 

 

 

Featured Courses

Students in the Secondary Mathematics Education Graduate Certificate program are required to successfully complete two required courses and two elective courses, such as the following courses:

MEDU 485: Teaching Mathematics in the Secondary School

Preparation of teaching plans, evaluation, materials for teaching mathematics. Teaching simulation and directed observation in schools.

TPTE 540: Topics in Improvement of Instruction

Special conferences, workshops, and in-service programs.

MEDU 583: Teaching Mathematics in Secondary Schools & Community Colleges

Topics appropriate for high school and developmental mathematics in community college. Special topics relate to enrichment, problem solving, and the integration of technology into math teaching and learning. Opportunity for special projects.

MEDU 523: Teaching Students Who Struggle with Mathematics

Identifying and responding to students’ difficulties in learning mathematics. Response to Intervention as it relates to mathematics education. Understanding and drawing on students’ thinking in teaching math.
