Students in the Secondary English Education Graduate Certificate program are required to successfully complete the following four required courses:

REED 461: Developing Reading Skills in Content Fields

Teaching reading and study skills in content areas of school program. Extensive assessment of textbooks. Emphasis on middle school and high school.

ENED 509: Young Adult Literature in the Secondary School, Grades 7-12

Content varies. Theoretical and practical approaches to using young adult literature in the secondary English classroom.

ENED 508: Teaching Composition & Grammar in the Secondary School

Teaching various modes of writing (e.g., argumentative, narrative) and grammar.

ENED 460: Teaching Reading & Literature the Secondary School

Teaching basic reading skills and literature.
